Echoes of Zoo is the latest project of Nathan Daems (saxophone), Bart Vervaeck (electric guitar), Lieven Van Pée (electric bass) & Falk Schrauwen (drums). You may know these musicians from bands like Black Flower, De Beren Gieren, Sylvie Kreusch & Compro Oro.

It's a band that gives a voice to the unheard. High-octane psychedelic jazz played with a punk attitude. From the high voltage vibe of Middle Eastern rock music to the percussive intricacy of West African drums with some dirty dub flavors thrown in for good measure. They create a hard-hitting, addictive and groundbreaking sound full of grooves and beats that will keep you wanting more. A frenzy of exhilarating melodies that are just brimming with life.

Adventurous hybrid jazz at its best. I struggle to describe why this stands out above a crowd, but... It all sounds so precise. Every instrument fills its own space so that, as busy as it gets, it never feels crowded. It breathes easy while full of energy. In case I'm not making sense, this, in short, is brilliant. Added bonus that the vocal track doesn't stand out negatively as those too often do on otherwise instrumental albums. Heavy rotation, and the best jazz-related album of 2022. rvss.eel
